I really am not sure even with both of them in this new one, if it would live up to what I got used to. I really do get the appeal though. Again, it is no different than those who have their favorite James Bond.
Of course it is a new generation. It's a transition from one set of character to a new set of characters. We saw the same with the Star Trek movies in the 90s moving from the original cast to the Next Generation cast.
And, no doubt, in a few years, if they manage to resurrect Star Trek successfully, we'll see a transition to a new, younger cast (I don't count the Abrams movies as "true" Trek. You don't change 40 years of established 'Trek history on a whim...)
Don't laugh, but these same quibbles over which character or which version is better or the "holy grail" is no different in entertainment than it is with morons who fight over Ford vs Chevy, or which Corvette was the best, or Heavy Metal vs Disco or rap. I know this is a movie thread, but, I see religion the same way. You cant get rid of it, it splits and younger generations like newer versions, but ultimately the ride ends for friend and foe alike.
