Spells, not so much like you would read in a fantasy novel or "Wicca for Dummies" (there is such a book by IDG)
I look at the concept of God/Goddess more as archetypes rather than deities throwing their weight around the Universe, which is why my wife is somewhat confused as to my actual belief system. It doesn't confuse me, however I am not sure I can explain it (nor am I sure anyone would be interested in it anyway), but I view the God/Goddess idea of Wicca as more of an ideal of male/femaleness of most life on Earth, and as for the fertility rite aspect of Wicca, I am all for that.
I also have a healthy dose of Discordia in my life, and with all the chaos in it, I can almost imagine someone directing chaos, fnord. And as for Discordian ritual, most Discordians aren't much into ritual anyway. My wife and I were married in a Discordian rite we wrote, however, and our private ceremony was only attended by a chipmunk. She ate the golden delicious apple after the rite was over. (Eris disguised as a chipmunk, perhaps?)
As for ritual, any sort of ritual can be calming to the mind, and probably better for my epilepsy than the pheonbarbital I take for it.
But what is calming to my mind right now is the flash flood here is over, and the thunderstorms are passing away to the east.
