My point is, this ain't exactly a new thing.
Go look up some of the anti-Catholic stuff on presidential candidate (and president) Kennedy. To this day, BTW, I find his defense of the "Catholic thing", that he wasn't a very good Catholic, to be problematic on several levels. But even as a kid growing up in the 60s, I was aware there was some pretty virulent anti-Catholic sentiment. Even heard it from folks/relatives and that was despite some Catholic intermarriage already existing in the family at that time.

Hopefully you're right, and this guy, and antifa violence, are just blips.
But consider that the world has changed a lot since then. In particular, the internet makes it a lot easier for people to obsess over these things.
It's too early to say that political violence is now instigated more easily, but I don't think it's safe to just assume that societal dynamics now are the same as they were 3 to 5 decades ago.
I could give one fuck less what that sicko's motive was, he had the same thing in common as the UPS shooter, easy access to firearms.
FYI the Softball shooter had no record at the time of his buy of the spray weapon he bought.
Va Tech Shooter also had no record when he bought his firearms.
Unless the makers and sellers step up and do a better job of caring where they end up, someone has to step in. Our laws suck as far as preventing the wrong people from getting them.
