I'm trying to understand the Atheist's point of view and I came across a question, I'd be grateful if you guys help me figure it out.
As you know there are many different gods in various cultures and religions which are significantly varied. The term "God" does not refer to a specific entity. So when you guys say "I don't believe in God" which god(s) are you referring to? What is the definition of that god which does not exist? There are certain gods that clearly do exist . Like the Pantheist's god which is the universe itself, so I assume you are referring to a "certain group of gods" I'd like to know what defines that certain group?
Thanks for reading and sorry for any mistakes or inaccuracies in my use of the English language.
Cheers.
Capital "G" "God" is a title. Lower case "g" "god" is a general description. Capital "G" "God" is most widely referred to as meaning the God of Abraham of the Jews, Christians and Muslims.
No sorry, the "pantheist god" does not exist either. You are merely projecting your own human qualities on the entire universe, it is no different than old mythology it is simply new age woo.
The universe is not a living thing. It is simply a giant weather pattern we are a mere temporary blip riding in. If you are going to assume the universe is a god itself, then you might as well believe that the ocean god Poseidon causes hurricanes. But, if you accept hurricanes are not controlled by a deity, then you should be able to accept that the universe itself is not a deity either.
How about the short and simple answer? There never was such a thing as a God/god/gods/deities or super natural.
The universe is big, really gigantic yes. And there are energy forces in it that are massive in power, but that energy is not magic nor is it living, it is merely just doing. The universe is not aware of us or cognitive of us. Now other life existing elsewhere in it might have our species level of progress or more, somewhere, but even that life would be finite and limited like we are.
I am sorry if that blunt harsh truth is not sexy enough, but it is a reality worth facing. Nor does accepting that mean you have to be negative, pessimistic or sad. It is no different than accepting the death of a tree, cockroach or bacteria.
Why would you even care to think of the universe as a living thing, it still would not change that you were not around 1 billion years ago. Do you fear what your life was like before you were born? So why would it matter 5 billion years from now? Now is what you have and now is what you can live with and do.
