The key difference was that, back then, we didn't have one of the two major political parties pandering to extremists. Sure, the Southern Democrats were still totally hung up on keeping the blackman down, but at least the rest of the Democrats were a bit more open-minded. Do you see a split in the Republican party like that? We just have the not-quite-far-right-wing, the far-right-wing, and the Nazi-in-all-but name.
I know, and the corporate dems need to go, but that's why we just have to keep fighting until it works. I know people are going to bitch and moan about splitting the democratic party, but it's not like letting the status quo ride is sustainable. They've already lost so much, the dems are going to be completely irrelevant unless dramatic change happens.
