Well, yeah, don't be a doormat but don't shy away from small courtesies like holding a door open for the next person a few steps behind you, that kind of thing, and if they react poorly, well, no sense doing it again for that person. You were the better person for it.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?
