That could be true but brings out a very important irony in us.
We go out of our way to preserve animals approaching extinction but are quite willing to blow the world to smithereens for unlrelated issues. We certainly are a weird bunch of chimps with conflicting priorities.
I had assumed, for instance, if India needed to nuke Pakistan they would have preselected cow free areas for the detonation beforehand. I'd also assumed if the past administration had ever got very far along in planning a detonation, regardless of the impetus to do so, there would have been an environmental impact statement prepared first.
