I really want to get into InfoSec, but I don't know where to start. Web development is okay... it scratches that "create something" itch, but at the same time it feels pretty hollow. I only have one client due to the issues I outlined in the low esteem thread, but it's more or less a dead end gig. She wants to go into e-commerce, but doesn't want to pony up the cash to do it. It's been like this for years, and I'm just bored and frustrated waiting for her to make up her mind.
Learning InfoSec would:
Give me something to do
Give me skills that will be truly useful if my living ever changed
Make me feel more useful than being a small time web developer... no more bending to the whims of a small business owner who knows nothing of computers yet still fights against my recommendations due to being cheap.
I bought myself a book on Kali Linux and a couple Kindke books on Metasploit, but I know that's barely scratching the surface. Unfortunately, I'm at that phase where I don't know what I don't know...
