Evolution is a pretty extravagant pathway to get to what we have today. Or don't you think He had any intention to reach our current diversity of creatures in advance? Maybe God just sat back enjoyed the show, content to wind up with whatever creatures prevailed. All that business of being made in His image might just be the sort of tale a narcissistic creature likes to tell itself.
But I've always thought theists should claim evolution rather than fight it. Why not?

Enlightened christian is an oxymoron. Or your typical christian re-defining of the word "enlightened.
Endarkenment? An endarkened christian? That kind of works in most cases. Resist evolution, disparage the power of human reason. These are the strategies of endarkenment.
