The clunkiest and most unnecessary bit of exposition of the entire series, perhaps? What are we supposed to do with that information, anyway? Oh, they got married - how romantic. So Jon Snow is not a son of some slut - he's a proper human being, because the parents he never knew were soooo in luv...

Stupid episode.

The way they edited Bron and Jamie - the latter still wearing his armor - resurfacing miles away from the battlefield - that was dumb, or at least unnecessarily misleading.

Jon Snow fingering Daenerys' dragon - dumb.

Varys and Tyrion being squeamish about execution of Tarlys, who were known to be disloyal, but who for no good reason decided to grow a backbone right after getting their a**es handed to them - dumb.

Tyrion and Davos traveling to King's Landing - that's just outright idiotic. Couldn't they send just about anybody with a message for Jamie, at least until Jon Snow returns with the evidence? And even then - if they have a wight or whatever they're planning to catch, then sending a bunch of men to dump it on Cersei's doorstep, ring the doorbell and run away - that would probably be enough of a message for her to want to talk about what's going on in the North, wouldn't it?

Samwell Tarly - ever a whiner, a quitter and a thief...  Dodgy

Oh no, not unecessary at all. It is extremely important to the story. It proves that Rhaegar and Lyanna were married, and Elia Martell was divorced. Which makes Jon not just the son of the Prince Regent of the realm, but a trueborn son, and true heir to the Iron Throne. Daenerys is Rhaegar's sister, which means she only inherits the Iron Throne if Rhaegar had no offspring. That's why Ser Arthur Dayne let Ned Stark beat him at the Tower of Joy. He knew that the only chance that Jon would survive is if Ned took him as his own bastard, and Ned would never surrender (that stupid pride thing). Jon tells Dany the exact same thing that Arthur Dayne told Ned at the Tower of Joy. "I wish you good fortune in all the wars to come." Dayne knew he wouldn't survive, and that Jon's existence would mean wars were imminent. I'd imagine we'll visit Starfall (the home of the Dayne house, and the Maester that recorded the anullment) to confirm further.

This show is calling back to major plot points from the past. Sending a wight to King's Landing to prove they exist. Ser Alliser Thorne was sent with this same task in the past (with a reanimated wight hand), but it didn't work.

Tyrion and Varys worried about whether you can take the Targ out of Dany---that's important. The show is giving us moral quandaries immediately followed by confounding moral quandaries. Dany being a near despot followed by a tender moment between her and Jorah.

Also, you seem to be missing the point about Jon's moment with Drogon. He is a Targaryen, the dragons are notoriously violent towards non-Targs. The dragon smelling Jon's blood is an important set up for him being one of the riders. I'd imagine he rides Rhaegal, since it's named after his father.

As far as Sam, he knows the Maesters are too far removed from the Wall to take things seriously. So, nab a couple of important books, take one last look at the astrolabe, and get the valuable knowledge up North where it can be used, and we can get another badass reunion. Also, since he is the only remaining Tarly, and since Jon has set a precedent for leaving the Watch, I'd imagine Samwell will retain his birthright to Horn Hill and maybe be the Warden of the Reach.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
