Let me clarify- it's an old jokey saying that means atheists might well be in foxholes, but when the bombs and shells start coming in they problably murmur a prayer under their breath..

I know what it means and it's still wrong

Let me put it another way- atheists can be great soldiers, but maybe they'd be even greater if they'd let God watch their backs?

It's a power thing..-

They don't need your hocus pocus .They don't believe in your hocus pocus

A soldier would be better served digging his foxhole deeper than wasting his time murmuring to some non-existent deity.






I wonder how many of them were praying while the Germans were busy shooting?
