Holy shit, I did not know, but it seems the pilot episode "Cocoon" did not have the original Dano we think of. It was played in the pilot by an actor named Scott Caan. We normally think of the long term Dano in the original series  as  James McCarthur. 

AND if that is not enough, comedic actor who played the bumbling cop Leslie Nielsen in the Naked Gun series, played a serious federal agent in the original pilot.
