All you got to do is to start with the fact that energy and consciousness always go hand in hand.
One can not exist without the other and as energy can not be killed or get rid of then is obvious that there is no such a thing as consciousness death.

Nobody ever die.
You see a dead body but you can not see a dead consciousness.
Plants like every other thing and creatures have consciousness.
Without it there would be nothing.
Nothing can exist without consciousness.
A plant consciousness at the time of the plant death will take over in a more evolved medium or body capable of carry on with more progress and an animal body will be the perfect medium to carry on with more progress in that life form.
The evidence is clear.
Consciousness advancement never stop in lower form of life.
It only stop in human when the free will take over but that is a different issue.

Plants, animals, and humans do things not just for survival and this is clear evidence that they do it with the conscious or unconscious desire to advance.
A plant can not know where she will end up but she knows that more consciousness means more progress.


You are the right example that everyone change.
In your ignorance as an atheist you do not know where this change will lead you to but within yourself you try to change all the time for the better.
There is something that push you to change.
This push is driven by your own consciousness that try and try to find total freedom and the same force that tell you to go ahead is the same force that push a plant or an animal to go forward.
As an atheist you struggle a lot more than someone who knows where he-she will eventually end up to.
What a pity but that is your problem that you create to make your life a lot more difficult.
