Um actually it does, but not for the reason believers want to think.
You do calm yourself and you can boost your immune system by thinking about things you find positive. But the same can be said about a child thinking about getting presents at Christmas, it would not matter to the child if it really was the parent giving it to them. Adults with god beliefs are merely projecting their own desires in the form of non existent beings.
The ancient Egyptians were successful for over 3,000 years centering their dynasty over completely false claims. I am sure Ra and Osiris and Horus and Isis belief made them feel good too.
