Christianity shaped western society,

Jesusism shaped western society until the late 17th century when everyone seems to have woken up and told them to go fuck themselves.  After that it was the principles of the Enlightenment that shaped the west and the church could go suck a dick.

You're wrong, this myth that you believe in which claims that the West before the 17th century was an awful place, and people were ignorant is just that, a myth. And "everyone seems to have woken up and told them..." everyone? Really? Do you even believe that statement?. You seem to be one of the few atheists that just hate religion and have a total disregard to any facts that support religion, and that is as dogmatic and as dangerous as the religion you stand against. You don't have to be a fundamentalist who hates religion to be an atheist.

Whether you like it or not, Christianity shaped the Western Culture before and even after the 17th century. And not just that, but also the Islamic Science that was produced by the Muslim Thinkers at the time when they kept and translated the writings of the Greek and the Romans to Arabic and which some of them later on were translated by Europeans. So in a nutshell, the writings of the great philosophers wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for the monks who kept some of them and the Muslim Thinkers who translated many of them later on.
