What Drich doesn't realise it that if scientists don't find what they are looking for then they don't have anything to publish. That's not the same as saying that scientists always find what they are funded to find. Most scientific research involves far more failed experiments than successful ones.
If a scientist tries to replicate the findings of another scientist and fails, then it's worthwhile writing up and publishing if they can demonstrate that it was not because of a mistake that they made.
