It was because they said Elsa's magic was an analogy for gayness, because of how others would hate and fear her for it, and she had to accept it in herself. Nothing to do with the relationships of the girls themselves.
I remember hearing about this. I saw the movie (ridiculously overrated btw) and don't think disney intended on making anything about gayness in it lol. People being delusional.
