Most wiccans are atheists. They aren't religious either. They're ritualists. Their gods are a term of art, and their practices supply structure but not stricture. This is why wicca never succeeds or fails as a cultural phenomena..it doesn't have the prerequisites nailed - it doen;t satisfy true believers or conformists, and it provides no authority for free thinkers. It literally can;t win....but at the same time it;s nowhere near as shitty and narrowminded as traditional belief, and so long as traditional belief remains as petty and close minded as it is things like wicca will swirl around it's periphery.
