No industry or bureaucracy will voluntarily wind itself down. They businesses and bureaucracies know how to expand themselves, not contract.
I suspect that there will be another war to engage in, to save somebody from something, or to protect American interests which are not defined, but there will be some reason to prop up defense spending. If they fail to find a war, the excuse will be to repair or maintain damaged equipment, or scrap obsolete equipment and buy new (and untested) equipment to replace it so our military "does not fall behind" other countries' militarizes.
Defense contractors are in no danger of being downsized.
