There's utility in showing that some persons superstitious belief is not only ridiculous on it's face...but even more ridiculous within the generous limits of self reference.
So, ofc there's no justice fairy in the sky..but if there were, and it was in the business of convicting and sentencing evil..the first order of business would have to be falling on it's own sword. If the faithful choose to believe in such a thing as righteous and lethal condemnation, then there is no character more deserving of punishment than the one they worship. For some, this realization would be an uncomfortable truth...and it features in a great many deconversion stories (we have a subforum, go check it out). For others, it's not a problem..as we've seen in thread. They're more than willing to excuse mundane evil, and so it's just not a problem for their god anyway- but even allowing those believers to show this allows others to form a more accurate opinion of the faith and it's faithful.
