The Burden of Proof

I don't know the situation on the ground in Arizona, but in FL you are (supposedly) no longer allowed to purchase a firearm after you've committed a felony. Some non violent felonies include most drug related offenses, and dui's. The 3 time stoner shouldn't be allowed to go deer hunting? Guy gets drunk and makes a bad decision and he shouldn't be allowed to go to the range ever again? Abuse of these laws is not a one way street.

You have guns, and you're not a murderous NRA gun nut. But you may be one hair away from pissing off the powers that be at any moment and finding yourself in a similar situation.

Why does it always feel like I'm arguing against a completely separate point in these discussions?

Just because a person is a member of the NRA it doesn't make them a "gun nut". The NRA is a lobbyist group that is responsible for the protection of the second amendment. The second amendment is necessary to give the constitution a backbone. Without it the government could do whatever they want without fear of reprisal from the people. When you have a people afraid of government you have tyranny where the government is afraid of the people you have liberty. So, both believers and non believers alike without the second amendment you couldn't have your precious 1st amendment. So in the words of the right wing " Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition"
