Acronyms have common use in all branches of U.S. government service, not just the military.
I have always found it entertaining how easily well thought out acronyms are so easily butchered. It's uncanny.
AFCS (Air Force Communications Service) butchered to: Alcohol First, Communications Second.
FMS (Formal Military Training) butchered to: Fucking with My Time.
ETOPS (Extended Twin Operations Performance Standards) (An FAA acronym related to how far aircraft with two engines may operate from an airfield) butchered to: Engines Turn Or Passengers Swim.
This is just the tip of the tip of the tip of the iceberg. There are thousands of acronyms in U.S. government and nearly everyone of them has a creative butchery.
I relied on the NavDicAb.
