It should be pointed out that only admins have access to view *all* private messages. We have used this ability in the past to catch rule breakers, trolls, sock accounts, etc.
The "private" message functionality is designed to allow members to communicate without posting in the regular forum, it is not designed to be a truly private system, and should not be used as such. If you want to have a private conversation, use an end-to-end encrypted messaging app.
