Doing science isn't just about turning a green solution blue and then explaining why that happened. We observe great apes and learn why they do something and get to the point where we can predict what they will do next. On a larger scale that's what we're doing with astronomy. We observed large stars moving very rapidly about a single point. The only thing that could do that, to our best knowledge, is gravity, a massive object located at the center of that circular motion. This is hypothesized to be a super massive black hole. Further observations have suggested that there are "SMBH" at the heart of many galaxies. The research continues.
