Since forever? At least in the USA, religion is considered a social class - like race, disability, gender, orientation - with regards to discrimination in the eyes of the law.
That conservative assholes are chipping away at what discrimination means, or what it consists of, or who can do it is a completely separate argument.
Quote:Perhaps DA just wants to talk about religious upbringing and her frustration probably comes from realization that, because of truly high number of people in her country being taught nonsense as truth, her country will probably never make a significant contribution to scientific research and have a boost in technological global economy market. Unfortuneatly it is a problem teaching kids religious nonsense, a problem that is addressed by many smart people like Bill Nye
and Lawrence Krauss
Now maybe we could help DA by giving her some good advice of how to help her country make more atheists and in that way stand on it's feet. Mayve she could start an atheist webpage in her country.
Maybe she could/should. However, the best advice I can give is for her to stop dwelling on the small shit she can't change, and to keep her head down until she can provide for herself. Survival - both in a physical/housing/monetary sense and mental sense - should be paramount right now.
Honestly, she makes all these posts acting like she's such a victim, but based on the stuff she's said about her parents (even when she's trying to make them look bad), they seem like normal, decent people. I highly doubt they would kick her out of the house, disown her, punish her, or beat her if she told them she no longer believed. It really just comes off like these string of threads where she overblows everything are just her seeking attention here. Especially with a thread like this one.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
