Yes i don't view defence as justification for Americans current gun policy . And if the fix is the democratic system then it's still needs to be fixed .

Easy to type in a forum, mighty difficult to do when you're wondering if you'll make this month's rent. You're a counselor. Surely you're aware of Maslow's hierarchy.

Guns are far more dangerous to the people in a residence than they are to any hypothetical intruder. The intruder would be in a house for, generously, an hour in his entire life. The residents live with the guns. This is why 34 innocent people die for every bad guy that gets shoot down. Guns are either ready for immediate use, and therefore not safe, or they're safe, and therefore not ready for immediate use. The FBI tells us that the most dangerous intruders are the ones who come when they KNOW people will be home. They are looking for a confrontation. They're ready, they initiate the event, not the resident.

The thing people need to defend their family from is their own poor decisions.

And that is something for you to mandate? How would you address the issue?

Another issue  Maslow's hierarchy has as pointed out by Noam Chomsky and others  comes with some dubious socioeconomic assumption especially the top of the pyramid .I dare say it seems somewhat capitalist at the top in what it regards are self actualization. And all to often Maslow's students and proponents ignore things like technology such as social media . Don't get me wrong i have a high degree of respect for Maslow just like i have great respect for B. F skinner , Carl Rogers , Jean Paiget , But their ideas had flaws and so does Maslow,s and i'll admit i'm a bit of a skeptic .
