Anyway, my point is you see LEOs in soft clothes, wearing kevlar under that. The "SWAT" guys have to gear up to go into a shit storm. When they do they carry the same long guns people swear are a God-given right. And maybe a tear gas projector.
Local agencies are getting surplus armored vehicles, inspired by the need to borrow armored cars from Wells Fargo during the Texas Tower Sniper event. It helps them to go home at night, something their families approve of.
