Actually, that probably wouldn't be a bad idea. Make it all very inconvenient, impose a tax to fund it and make it clear that the gun nuts are to blame. As a result of various bombers and hijackers over the years, everyone now has to endure all sorts of humiliating, time-consuming security checks at airports. I had cause to visit a local court building several weeks ago, where the security checkpoint was backed up into the street. We tolerate this kind of personal intrusion in these areas of modern society, understand it even. Why not get used to it in the public streets?
