I try not to judge someone's compassion for the poor based on political leanings. If someone votes for less government assistance but then turns around and donates a lot to charity, volunteers their time, or otherwise does a lot to help in their personal life, I think they are still following Christ.
I find it hard to believe this is the case for Trump, though.
