If there was a debate between an intelligent person and a really dumb person such as someone who says that drinking poison would be lethal for you and another person who denies this and says that it will make you live forever, then we can just give up on the debate with this person, conclude that he is just crazy, and move on with our lives. We needn't to do any further researching into what this crazy person is saying. But when it comes to a debate between intelligent people and other intelligent people, we shouldn't use the same shortcut method since it would be treating these intelligent people as being dumb as that crazy person who thought that drinking poison would make you live forever.
Intelligent people can be crazy. They're not mutually exclusive traits.
