The despot who has chemical weapons and has been killing his own people is the one...killing his own people..with chemical weapons..supported by a power that actively blocked sanctions and investigations into...gassing his own people. I think that a baseline of reality is probably warranted in this discussion. Neither Iran nor Russia actually want a war. They need the pretext of a war to continue devaluing western influence and credibility. To them..anything that hurts everyone else is a gain for them.
(Iran being a special-ish case..since they have an immediate goal beyond the dissolution of the current world order...they need forward bases to hit isreal)
