I changed from a wifi based provider last year to Comcast cable based internet. With my prior provider, I was supposed to be getting up to 7mbs, but I was only getting about 1mbs, and it was so poor that I couldn't even stream Youtube videos. Now that I have Comcast, I have considerably better bandwidth, but it's really overkill as the only demand I put on it is streaming movies. Still, the main bottleneck I faced was the wireless throughput, which was lousy due to the poor wifi section of a base model wifi router/modem. I just this week replaced the wireless link to my smart TV set top box with a wired connection, so that should no longer be an issue.
