... As awful as 9 deaths are at least there was no gun fire and they have him in custody. That's something i suppose 

Huh? Did you actually just say that? Just when I thought the goofy shit you say couldn't get any dumber. Gun, van, they're still dead! The intent to kill was still the same, no matter the method! Ten dead now. But, "...at least there was no gun fire." 

That's not what i said. I was referring to the perp and the cop not opening fire on each other when pedestrians  were around which could have killed more people. Plus he's been taken alive something that would not happen in a shootout .
