Does this mean that atheists are incapable of sinning because they can't possibility deliberately turn away from that which they don't even believe exists?
Atheists are capable of sinning and committing serious sins, just like everyone else.
Is it possible for their serious sin to become a mortal sin? (mortal sin = a serious sin with full consent of the will and knowledge that you are turning away from God)
....I suppose if a person doesn't think God is real but they commit an act that they know is a very wrong and horrible thing to do, and they choose to do so willingly anyway, they are choosing to turn away from goodness. In doing so, I suppose they are turning away from God in that sense.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
