You are incorrect in your view from the Christian stand and the atheist.
Sin is anything that is against God's nature and will. There is no other standard, just because atheist do not like who God is does not excuse them nor does it excuse Christians if they choose to ignore who God is. It doesn't matter what anyone believes, it is entirely what God deems to be right.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
