I was personally fine with doing a trial run, but unfortunately I’m a stickler for democracy.

I bet you wish me and Poca were still on the Staff as we'd have both voted yes as well

I mean that's what trial runs are for right? To check if it will really be quite as logistically difficullt as presumed or if it will be a pleasant surprise and in fact work quite well (perhaps a couple of folks getting removed but the vast majority getting along just fine. There's always going to be people who complain right? Should we really pander to those people?)

Well, that would still be quite silly. Why would we have an entire section modded by a single non-staff member. It’s not even technically possible.

It actually is possible.  That's how the Mafia subforum is moderated.

Specifically they won’t have access to reports. Mafia forum isn’t really moderated the same way the regular forum is, game operators can close/open threads and edit other users posts (I think) but that’s about it.

They'll have the ability to close threads and remove people from the user-group right? That's all me and CD meant, I think.
