The problem is when the cult gets too big and too powerful and insists that everyone else join the cult and that the government bends to the cult's will.
Many people generally want to impose their strong views on others, and on society in general. Whether you're Republican, Democrat, religious, atheist, etc - doesnt matter which. That just tends to be human nature. Wouldn't you prefer everyone to be atheist and liberal? You vote Democrat and youve tried to argue people out of opinions they have that you don't share, right?
