The swag. That's why they do the most absurd mental gymnastics to avoid the idea that there's bad stuff in their holy books, that God isn't perfect, that there's no reason to believe that God exists or that there is no evidence of an afterlife. It's also why doubts about their faith makes them feel blasphemous and bolsters their faith. It's an act of self-deception to avoid reality. They get the fear of hell indoctrinated into them but what's really hard to shake off is their own fear of meaninglessness and nihilism. They obviously aren't consciously doing this but when it all comes down to it: How many theists do you know that believes in God but wishes God didn't exist? They believe it because they can't face the alternative, ultimately.
Everyone can answer here but I agree it would be a great question for the thread
