The Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China is coming up soon (21 June - 30 June).
Being a non-vegetarian myself, I find that I have no grounds to criticize the festival. But I wonder why the animal rights supporters (last line from the Wikipedia quote) don't criticize the killing of pigs, fowl or fish. It's probably because those animals aren't as "cute" as dogs.

The festival began in 2009 and spans about ten days during which it is estimated that 10,000–15,000 dogs are consumed. The festival has been criticised by animal welfare and supporters.
