The fact that his every "proof" of god is a particularly inept appeal to consequence strongly suggests that his wishes played a huge part. It's also very informative as to why he can;t seem to understand why no one else believes he "proved" this that or the other thing.
He can;t imagine that other people don;t share his hangups, or that their own wishes for a world in which x wasn;t true wouldn;t lead to the belief that y is true.
