The fish symbol is actually pre Christian.
Ictus or Ichthyus (Greek Ikhthus) does mean fish
Christians have used it as an acronym almost since the beginning of Christianity:
I (i)=Iota, is the first letter of the word Iesous, "Jesus"
Ch (kh)= the first letter of Khristos.Greek for "Christ" or "annointed"
Theta (th)= First letter of "Theou" God's generative case.
Upsilon (u)=is the first letter of huios.Greek for son
Sigma (s)= is the first letter of soter.Greek for saviour
"Jesus Christ Son Of God, Saviour"
Hence it's fair to say that to refer to oneself as "Ichthus" might be seen by the slightly more liturigically literate as a little immodest.
padraic is my hero.

I used to tell a lot of religious jokes. Not any more, I'm a registered sects offender.
