However, I still stand by the evolution that led to us. Those are huge odds that innumerable species overcame to get to us. If any of our predecessors died out before we had a chance to evolve, that's it. All the way down to the bacteria from the beginning. They could have died out as well. I still find that absolutely mind blowing.
At this level, it's okay to say the 'odds are staggering'. However the odds are just as staggering for any other species. Almost everything that happens to us on a daily basis is extraordinarily unlikely if you start from today and work backwards to all the things that had to happen for you to be wearing the exact pair of socks you have on right now, and that includes your great to the tenth grandparents having children that would meet and have more children and so on; not to mention you winding up in the particular store you bought the socks in and the fact that you could have chosen a different package. Still, despite how staggering the odds against were, all those things DID happen just exactly right so that you're wearing those particular socks today. Is it miraculous, or did every event in the universe from the beginning of time have to have SOME result today, and naturally that's what we're going to experience? It's both mind-blowing and trivial at the same time, and that is mind-blowing in itself, I think.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.
