The nut was Jonathan "Duchess" Archer of the first 2 1/2 seasons of Enterprise.

Ok, I misunderstood you.  I have watched 'Enterprise' - in an admittedly desultory fashion - and I don't seem to recall Archer being a conspiracy theorist.  Did I miss something?
