For me, I tend to get depressed when I'm feeling overwhelmed. Perhaps it's over something at work, or just a situation I'm putting off dealing with. I then tend to retreat into myself, don't talk much, and find myself depressed. It becomes hard to focus, and all I want to do is sleep.
