That's the nice Latin version of "Kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out!".
That celibacy thing came about because the married priests were getting the land, which was heritable. So the RCC forced married priests to leave their wives, who were left to fend for themselves. Then they grabbed the land "back". If anyone thinks that the RCC wouldn't stoop to something like that, just remember the Inquisition.
FWIW, if one looks at the history of the papacy, there were even married popes; sons and nephews abound around the papacy. It's where the term"nepotism" was coined- popes appointing nephews as cardinals.
