They basically get offended on behalf of a whole group of people, who would most likely not give the slightest shit if you asked them.
A legitimate problem with the PC left (along with, for instance, reversing the prejudices of rape culture not by abandoning them, but swapping out who benefits from what prejudices, hi, Asia Argento), and another one that almost certainly won't be fixed by just doubling down and making a big show of returning to the old ways just to spite them.
As I mentioned last night, judging each idea on its own merits, incorporating the good ideas and rejecting the bad ones is probably the best option. And, of course, as Robvalue seems to have implied, these sort of PC leftists tend to not have that much political power (outside of the social media hiveminds, anyway) and, in real-world terms, are more of a nuisance than a threat.
