To clarify, the staunch 'patriots' who fight tooth and nail against any form of gun control - the religiously NRA donating wannabe weekend warrior LARP brigade who view Ted Nugent as a personal hero - have firearm ownership as a pillar of their underlying sense of self. It's not just a hobby, it's not just for personal protection, it's a lifestyle. That's why the response to gun control is so visceral. They view it as a threat to their very being. And, as we've repeatedly seen, it's trivially easy to manipulate those people.
