He's been urging "Silence and prayers". I am seeing more people sending in their opinions to the local paper. None of those are defending the RCC. Just needs to get rolling. But with the fire hosing spanning many centuries, it'll be an uphill battle all the way. As far as the Vatican being a sovereign state, I do recall that the Italian police raided a certain Cardinal's office over some money laundering for the MAFIA. They were pretty cheesed off about it. There is precedent, there.
