I don't mind people saying it, but I'd rather it be phrased perhaps a bit differently to convey a broader meaning.
"Are you only good because you fear hell ?
I'm good because I value the well being of other people."
"Maybe you're only good because you're more like a trained dog that behaves well in order to get a reward ?
Take that reward away and you lose that domestic desire to behave."
"I'm good because I can consider the consequences of my actions and take those actions that increase the health, happiness and well being of others."
"If your own behavior is completely tied to your image of a god, then that would make you a puppet.
If you are a puppet, then you will never know what it is like to do something good until you cut the strings and make that first real choice to act on your own moral code."
