Sexual assault and false accusation rates have declined over time, with awareness of issues raised, women having better access to health care, etc.  When these go backwards, expect the rates to rise again.

It is also significant that false accusations of rape are higher than other crimes, HERE, although to what degree there is much dispute.

It's interesting to note that the number of 'false and baseless' allegations of rape is similar to the number for robbery. I guess we should stop believing people when they tell us they were robbed.
